April 13 2017, Thermal, California – Desert Jet Center, the newest FBO in the greater Palm Springs area, participated recently in an IS-BAH audit and became the only FBO in the region to earn the prestigious ISBAH registration, signaling a commitment of its leadership in safety management and risk mitigation.
The International Standard for Business Aircraft Handling (IS-BAH) is a set of global industry best practices for business aviation ground handlers and FBOs, which features at its core a safety management system (SMS). The IS-BAH follows the structure of the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) program and incorporates the NATA Safety 1st ground audit program.
Desert Jet Center’s parent company, Desert Jet, was one of the first jet operators globally to embrace the IS-BAO standard in 2009. Since that time, Desert Jet has achieved Stage III registration which is demonstrated by a Safety Management System that is sustained and supported by an on-going improvement process, with safety management activities being fully integrated into the company’s business and a positive safety culture being sustained. Desert Jet Center opened its doors integrating Desert Jet’s mature safety management system into its operation from day one.
“Desert Jet is committed to instilling a strong culture of safety and continuous improvement that comes directly from the input of our team members”, said Brad Elliott, General Manager of Desert Jet Center. “Obtaining IS-BAH registration for our newest company, Desert Jet Center, reflects our commitment to our core value of Safety is Paramount as we recognize the importance of engaging our employees to continually and thoughtfully improve the way our service is delivered.”
Denise Wilson, President and CEO of Desert Jet, stated, “As an IS-BAO stage III jet operator, it was important for us to build an FBO that met our safety standards from the ground up. A lot of FBOs don’t evaluate the risk of, say, stacking aircraft in the hangar with control surface overlap, towing aircraft without trained wing-walkers, and chocking only one set of wheels. The day our FBO opened, we had a set of standards developed from over ten years of operating an active fleet of jet aircraft and lessons learned from our SMS. Desert Jet Center was developed to meet the exacting needs of the IS-BAO-compliant flight department and we are proud of our FBO team for embracing the IS-BAH standard so thoroughly.”
The announcement comes just in time for the expected increased traffic due to the popular music events in April that occur nearby including Coachella Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach Country Festival. Safety is Paramount when working around an extremely packed ramp and having a proven safety system that follows the International Business Aircraft Council’s standards gives operators extra confidence their asset is being handled to the highest standards. Only two other FBOs in Southern California have implemented a safety management system and meet the IS-BAH standard. Desert Jet Center is the only FBO in Southern California that meets the IS-BAH standard that can accommodate larger aircraft with an 8,500-foot-long runway.
