With its great weather, miles of sandy beaches, and major attractions, San Diego is known worldwide as one of the best tourist destinations on the West Coast.

Palomar/McClellan Airport (IATA: CLD, ICAO: KCRQ) Flying south along the coast from Los Angeles, we arrive at Carlsbad. Sometimes referred to as CLD, Palomar airport is the best jet capable runway in coastal north San Diego county. Within minutes of popular destinations like Oceanside, Lego Land, Camp Pendleton, as well as locations to the south like Solana Beach, Lucadia, Encinitas, Del Mar, Torry Pines golf course, and La Costa, it is very popular with jet travelers. Major golf manufacturers like Callaway and Cobra are also very close to the airport. Four FBOs on the field provide service to the many jets that use this popular airport.

Ramona Airport (IATA: RNM, ICAO: KRNM) Just 19 miles east of Palomar Airport, Ramona sits on a mesa 1400 feet above sea level, serving the mountain communities of North San Diego county. In the shadow of Mt. Woodson, the 5,000 foot long runway is great for access to Ramona, Poway, Julian, Santa Ysabel, and Mt. Palomar.

San Diego Lindbergh Field (IATA: SAN, ICAO: KSAN) Located only three miles from downtown San Diego, Lindbergh Field is the busiest single runway airport in the United States. With one of the most beautiful approaches to be seen out of the window of an aircraft, San Diego Bay, the San Diego/Coronado Bay Bridge, the skyline of downtown, Coronado and the Silver Strand, the Gaslamp District, Petco Park (home of the San Diego Padres), Point Loma, NAS North Island, the Aircraft Carrier/Museum USS Midway, and the beautiful Embarcadero are almost close enough to touch as you land. The San Diego Zoo and attractions of Balboa Park are visible on the right side of the aircraft, if you can tear yourself away from the view on the left. San Diego Lindbergh Field is also the airport of choice for large jet arrivals for events at the Qualcomm Stadium. There are noise restrictions and a late night/early morning curfew.

Montgomery Field (IATA: MYF, ICAO: KMYF) Located on Kearny Mesa, Montgomery Field is close to the Qualcomm Stadium (home of the San Diego Chargers). Due to its very short runway, the largest aircraft that normally land here are Citations. Close to the communities of Clairemont Mesa, Mira Mesa, Mission Valley, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, La Jolla, Bird Rock, Mt. Soledad, and Mission Bay, this small public airport has easy access, and little traffic. There are late night and early morning noise restrictions for jets.

Gillespie Field. (IATA: SEE, ICAO: KSEE) East of Montgomery Field in the valley of El Cajon, Gillespie Field serves the inland communities of San Diego. It is close to San Diego State University. Jet traffic is discouraged on the 5400 foot runway between 10:00 pm and 7:00 am.

San Diego Brown Field. (IATA: SDM, ICAO: KSDM) Only 200 yards north of the Mexican border on Otay Mesa, Brown Field is the usual customs port of entry for private flights coming north from Mexico and Central America for operators who do not have overflight authority.
